Enchantment Reference
All Java Edition enchantments — levels, incompatibilities, and applicable items
How do enchantments work?
Enchantments are special bonuses applied to tools, weapons, armor and other items using an Enchanting Table or an Anvil. The Enchanting Table requires Lapis Lazuli and experience levels. Surrounding the table with Bookshelves (up to 15) increases the maximum enchantment level available.
Treasure enchantments
Some enchantments — marked TREASURE below — cannot be obtained from an Enchanting Table. They can only be found in chests, fishing, trading with Librarian Villagers, or by looting. These include Mending, Frost Walker, Curse of Binding, Curse of Vanishing, and Soul Speed.
Incompatible enchantments
Many enchantments cannot be combined on the same item. For example, Protection, Fire Protection, Blast Protection and Projectile Protection are all mutually exclusive — you can only have one of them on a piece of armor. Incompatible pairs are shown on each card below.
